A downloadable game

In recent years, there have been a vast number of interesting, well-designed indie RPGs that have expanded the possibilities of the medium, through innovative settings and mechanics, all designed to help players express their imagination and creativity.

This game is intended to put a stop to all that.

Dungeons Without Love or Imagination is a dungeon crawl stripped down to beyond the bare essentials. The goal is to run a hyper-efficient fantasy tabletop RPG unencumbered by vivid descriptions, whimsy, or even the most basic level of storytelling.

Classes, Races, and Backgrounds don't matter - all that matters are the only things a character can do - Stab, Steal, & Spell.

Creativity and storytelling are mechanically discouraged and penalized.

Instead of attractive maps and evocative room descriptions, DWLoI has a series of short alphanumeric codes to describe each location.

All you need a GM, 2+ players, some six-sided dice, and a complete lack of imagination.

This game was created for the One-Page RPG Jam 2020

THIS IS BRILLIANT.

I am angry that "equivalent words" to "search for traps" might be tolerated. The only words that are equivalent to search for traps are search for traps. Exactly what whimsical nonsense did you have in mind. "Rummage for ruses"? "Ponder the presence of pitfalls and pranks"? Stamp it out

this game is freaking amazing on so many levels. i can easily see playing it with my friends and competing in a sort of mini-game for who can get the most negative xp. my husband on the other hand loves the simple osr "give each character a number" direction of the game. tongue in cheek or not, it's brilliant in its simplicity.

I'm glad you're enjoying it. Thanks for the kind words.
